Handle Alaska is a state approved Marijuana Handler Permit course for anyone who works in the Alaska cannabis industry in any of the licensed establishments. Whether you're an owner, cultivator, processor, lab technician, budtender, transporter, or working security, this is the perfect course to teach you all of the required laws and regulations in the industry.
This course must cover: Alaska's medical marijuana laws, Ballot Measure 2, all of the state wide regulations (Ch 306), the effects of marijuana consumption, how to identify an impaired individual, how to distinguish valid forms of government issued IDs, how to intervene and prevent unlawful consumption, and the penalties for any unlawful acts.
The course is divided into 11 lessons in video format, along with transcripts. After course completion, one has 10 chances to pass the exam with a score of at least 70%. While no one has needed this many chances, it takes the pressure off. The test was updated in July 2021 so it's shorter and more direct while still retaining the most relevant aspects of the industry. The signed course exam certificate (will be emailed to you), your 2x2 photo, a copy of your ID, and a check for $50 must then be submitted to the Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office, who will issue the actual Handler Card to you.
Owner and Course Creator: Kim Kole
Kim Kole has been a teacher for 15 years, 14 of which was spent teaching high school Biology, Chemistry, and AP Environmental Science. During that time, she vetted many online courses for the district and then crafted 3 more for their iSchool program and for her own flipped classrooms. This is where the lectures and quizzes are online and completed for homework, leaving more class time for labs and discussions.
Kim was the chair of the Parent Coalition during the Yes on 2 campaign. This lead to her involvement as the Director of Communications and Board member of the Coalition for Responsible Cannabis Legislation (CRCL), which advocated on the political side for appropriate regulations to promote a thriving cannabis industry in the state of Alaska. She is also the Secretary and Board member of the Alaska Marijuana Industry Association (AMIA), whose goal is to unite the industry members while providing education and needed services. Since the passage of Ballot Measure 2, Kim was the state chapter chair of Women Grow, a national organization dedicated to connecting, inspiring, and educating women and men in the cannabis industry through educational networking meetings. Finally, she held cultivation, manufacturing, and retail licenses for Raspberry Roots in Anchorage for 4 years. Creating the Handler Card course is the natural culmination of her experience as educator, advocate, and member of the Alaskan cannabis community and industry.
Events & Workshops
This course is broken up into 11 lessons, each has one to three videos between 3 and 8 minutes in length. Transcripts are included with each lesson because sometimes people want to listen to the information and sometimes you need to just read it. Work on this at your own pace in the comfort of your home.
In Person Training
Due to the popularity, efficiency, and convenience of this online course, I only hold in person classes at special events. There are no planned in person classes at this time.
